Why Dark Paint is the Perfect Choice for a Bedroom
When we first moved into our home, EVERYTHING was beige. The walls, the carpet, the countertops… I hated it. The first thing I did was paint every room. My favorite choice was the dark matte navy I selected for our bedroom. Dark paint was a great choice for several reasons.
1. It’s calming.
The deep, rich blue made me think of the night sky, so I thought it would be the perfect choice for a bedroom.
2. It makes our furniture, art, and accessories pop.
3. It hides little handprints.
4. It helps you sleep.
The dark walls absorb morning light, for those rare, rare occasions that I get to sleep in. Also, when your eye sees bright colors, it sends messages to your brain that it’s time to wake up and get going. Darker shades send the signal that it’s nighttime, time for rest.
5. It’s unique.
Dark, moody colors feel very chic and sophisticated to me, but a lot of people are afraid to use them. I like that my paint selection isn’t something you see in every home you walk into.
Several people told me that choosing such a bold color was risky, because I’d get sick of it quickly. Well, it’s been 6 years and I still love it just as much as I did in the beginning. If we ever move, I plan to paint our next bedroom this same color. If you were wondering, the color is Admiralty by Olympic.
