The Simple Skincare Routine I Used to Fade my Melasma

According to pregmed.org, 50-70% of all women develop melasma during pregnancy.  Melasma, also known as the “mask of pregnancy,” are those dark splotches that can develop anywhere on your skin, but particularly on your cheekbones, forehead, and even your upper lip.  Lovely.

I developed melasma while I was pregnant with Lillian and my doctor told me it would go away within a few months of having her.  It didn’t.  I tried numerous over the counter treatments as well as chemical peels.  Nothing was helping.  I finally went with my instincts to try a skincare company that I was familiar with and already loved.

Korres.

I’ve been using Korres Quercetin and Oak anti-aging products for a few years and have been very happy with them.  I decided to try their Wild Rose line to fade my melasma, since it contains Vitamin C which is supposed to be “brightening.”  I asked for a sample of the moisturizer at Sephora, and just from the small amount in my sample (which lasted me about a week), I was already noticing that my dark spots looked lighter.  I bought the full size Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturising and Brightening Cream along with the Wild Rose Daily Brightening and Refinishing Buff Cleanser and the Wild Rose Vitamin C Active Brightening Oil.  Here’s my daily routine:

In the morning, I gently exfoliate my face with the Buff Cleanser and follow with the 24-Hour Moisturising Cream.  I then apply Supergoop CC Cream.  This is kind of my bonus secret weapon against melasma.  Any residual dark spots are blended away when I apply this cream.  Most days I just wear this without any additional foundation.  Plus it has SPF 35.  You should always wear sunscreen on your face anyway, but since sun exposure exacerbates melasma, I’m extra diligent now.

In the evening, I remove my makeup with my Neutrogena cleanser and then apply the Korres Active Brightening Oil.  This stuff is HEAVENLY.  At first I was a little freaked out about putting oil on my face, but it is silky, not greasy, and has made my skin look dewy and beautiful.  Plus, it smells incredible.  If you only get one skincare item, this is the MVP.

I wish I had taken before and after photos, because the difference really is astounding.  If you’re looking for a product to lighten melasma or dark spots, Korres Wild Rose line is your ticket.
